Organizational Development
A focus on organizational development allows nonprofits to grow and be more sustainable. Nonprofit leaders need certain information, resources and tools in order to build successful organizations. Executives, managers and boards need to utilize the information and tools in a timely way, building broad based support for different strategies that build the organization.
The term ‘organizational development’ applies to all aspects of the organization itself: mission, programs, staff, board, volunteers, finance, fund raising, information technology, outcome evaluation and other areas. All organizations go through life cycles, as do people. Young organizations typically have certain issues and systems they must develop. There are certain organizational development issues facing mid sized organizations. Larger organizations have still other key issues. These are all addressed in t he article on organizational life cycles.
There are additional pages in the section, on stages of organizational development and handling big challenges. See the list on the lower left hand panel.
